Schistosomiasis

Our research program integrates epidemiology, molecular parasitology, and host–pathogen biology to advance understanding of schistosomiasis across human and animal populations. We investigate praziquantel treatment efficacy in endemic communities while mapping the ecological and evolutionary drivers of schistosome hybridization and zoonotic transmission. A central pillar of our work focuses on Female Genital Schistosomiasis, its clinical burden, and its interactions with co morbidities that shape disease progression and reproductive health outcomes. By combining field epidemiology with molecular laboratory studies on the immunobiology of schistosomes notably in the human host, we aim to uncover mechanisms that influence transmission dynamics, host susceptibility, and treatment response. Together, these efforts support the development of more effective control strategies and deepen local understanding of this complex neglected tropical disease.
